required upon hire. General Position Overview : The role of the
elementary assistant principal serves as a school and educational
leader responsible for supporting an instructional vision and a
focused plan for improving student achievement; monitoring and
supervising instruction; supporting teachers in improving their
instructional practice; creating a community of continuous learning
for all staff and students; and fostering a culture of high
expectations for all students. In addition, the assistant principal
is charged with supporting strong partnerships with families and
community, creating a safe, inclusive school climate, and
effectively managing operational, technical and staff issues to
promote instructional progress. The assistant principal carries out
duties and responsibilities in accordance with board policies,
statutory requirements, administrative rules and regulations,
consistent with collective bargaining agreements, and under the
direction of the school principal. The elementary assistant
principal is also a member of the Hood River County School
District’s administrative team. The assistant p rincipal works
collaboratively with the principal and district office leadership
team to advance the Hood River County School District Mission and
Vision. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Effectively assist
in the management of all aspects of a Pre-K through Intermediate
Grade School including before and after-school extracurricular
enrichment and intervention programs. Understand, communicate, and
cause to be implemented Oregon’s and Common Core academic learning
standards and implement standards based curriculum. Assist teachers
in developing and maintaining appropriate and effective teaching
methods. Analyze and understand data and effectively use it to
drive continuous improvement efforts. Collaborate with the
district-wide administrative leadership team, initiate a strong
sense of team, and serve on committees, as appropriate or
requested. Appreciate and respect diversity, challenge covert and
overt racism, and use an equity lens in decision-making processes.
Partner with Human Resources Director in recruiting and retaining
qualified job applicants and make recommendations for hire. Partner
with the Chief Finance Officer in effectively administering school
or department budgets. Develop and foster community connections
that will enhance the educational experience of all students. Plan
and implement appropriate professional development as it relates to
the building and the district’s continuous improvement plan (CIP).
Effectively manage conflict within the school building. Schedule
and organize student activities, student support, and state
testing. Evaluate classified and licensed employees as assigned
according to best practices and district policy. Report issues to
authorities as necessary (child abuse, suspicious activity, etc.).
Participate in school, district, region, and state meetings as
appropriate. Assist and monitor professional learning communities
(PLCs) to support professional practice to improve student
achievement. Support district and school level multi-tiered systems
of support to address the needs of all learners including Positive
Behavior Support and Response to Intervention systems. Effectively
maintain district and school systems to assure that the safety and
health needs of students are met in a timely manner. Administer the
Student Code of Conduct consistently. Manage student attendance
within school guidelines, District policy, and the Oregon Revised
Statutes. Maintain high ethical standards in all matters, including
confidentiality. Advocate for children and actively embrace and
invite community involvement. Maintain appropriate certifications
and training hours as required. Demonstrate a commitment to
personal growth and learning. Effectively balance between great
flexibility and great organization. Maintains regular and
predictable attendance and is on time to work, to meet the needs of
the students, staff and the expectations of the district. Perform
work beyond a standard 40-hour work week when workload requires.
Other duties as assigned. Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Attends educational support meetings, including individualized
education plan (IEP) meetings, and school board meetings.
Substitute teach as necessary. Resolves grievances and other
employee relations issues at the lowest level possible. Supports
employees appropriately per district policy and negotiated
collective bargaining agreements. Supervisory Responsibilities:
Position helps supervise and manage assigned staff, substitute
employees, and volunteers. All school employees have a
responsibility for supervising students and assisting in
maintaining a safe environment. Qualifications: To perform this job
successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential
duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are
representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Knowledge and experience using district approved teaching, learning
and evaluation framework, currently the Charlotte Danielson’s
Framework for Teaching Standards. Demonstrated ability to manage
systemic change and successfully implement reform initiatives that
produce significant gains in closing persistent race-based
achievement gaps. Demonstrated knowledge of high leverage,
research-based instructional strategies and models for improving
instructional practices. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of
data to assess student progress and inform instructional practice.
Effective interpersonal skills in managing and interacting with
diverse groups of stakeholders. Excellent time management and
organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to manage conflict
through quality decision-making and effective problem solving.
Demonstrated proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and
presentation software. Must be able to use district IT systems to
perform routine tasks, such as: performance management assessments,
access financial reports and assisting in the management of school
staffing and budget information. Ability to communicate in English
and Spanish preferred. Possess a valid driver’s license and
reliable transportation. Possess or have the ability to qualify for
and maintain, an Oregon Principal Administrator License issued by
TSPC. Prior administrative and supervisory experience preferred.
Required Testing : Any offer of employment made by Hood River

Range: The Elementary Assistant Principal position is a 215
day/year position and will begin August 1, 2026. The annual salary
