Job Description:

Provides professional engineering expertise in assisting project manager and other engineering personnel in implementing projects, supporting field maintenance crews and other related engineering activities.

Education & Applicable Fields:
Bachelor s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, or Architectural Engineering or closely-related field (from an ABET accredited school) is required.
ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology)

Education & Experience Requirements:
" 6 months of Civil Engineering experience is required.
" Must have knowledge of engineering concepts, principals, and practices applicable to components and facilities found on a regional transmission system.

Typical Tasks may include:
Note: All official drafts, documents and recommendations, as listed below, must be reviewed, finalized and approved / accepted by appropriate BPA manager or other federal personnel with the authority to do so.
" Provide planning support, coordinate plans of service with stakeholders, and implements BPA management approved plans for assigned projects.
" Prepare detailed design, material, or procurement specifications for assigned projects, verifying that technical tradeoffs have been considered, and decisions conform to existing policies and standards and are within budgetary constraints.
" Prepare engineering designs or assist in developing engineering requirements for the development, installation and modifications of existing facilities.
" Provide technical support to construction, operations, and maintenance personnel.
" Conceive, design, build, operate, construct and maintain infrastructure projects and systems including roads, buildings, dams, bridges and systems for water supply and sewage treatment.
Specific Tasks may include:
" Perform engineering duties in planning and design, and provide technical guidance regarding the construction and maintenance of building structures, and facilities, such as substations, transmission towers
" Provide technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to industrial and managerial personnel.
" Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards.
" Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility.
" Test soils and materials to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations, concrete, asphalt, or steel.
" Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, and material stress factors to determine design specifications.
" Plan and design various systems and structures, following construction and government standards, using design software and drawing tools.
" Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.

" Ability to analyze and design complex installations, facilities or structures using the latest techniques and applicable standards.
" Ability to participate and perform effectively in a project team environment and effectively manage multiple work assignments and changing priorities.
" Ability to provide overall coordination for the design and construction of various facilities including project scheduling and estimating.
" Ability to review and evaluate packages prepared by technicians (including drawings, material certifications, and submittals for conformance to the design specifications).
" Skill in oral and written communication to effectively fulfill stakeholder/ customer/team requirements.
" Analyze information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
" Drafting, laying Out, and Specifying Technical Devices, Parts, and Equipment Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
" Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
" Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to set up functions, enter data, or process information.
" Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
" Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge.
" Communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail.
" Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
" Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
" Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads.
" Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
" Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, atomic and sub- atomic structures and processes.
" Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits.
" Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
" Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services.
" Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
