Senior Director and Actuary, Corporate (Remote considered)

Position Summary

In this highly visible and influential role as Senior Director on the Corporate Actuarial and Risk Management (CARM) team, you will have direct responsibility for the success of a robust actuarial governance framework as well as strong execution of the financial reporting deliverables in CARM. You'll provide thought leadership in a variety of actuarial functions across all product lines offered at the Standard, working with a wide audience of both actuaries and non-actuaries in order to accomplish optimal business outcomes. A relocation package is available to an out of area candidate. A remote working arrangement will be considered.

Primary Responsibilities

* Provide corporate actuarial oversight by engaging in business results review, experience study and assumption review, pricing and crediting rate setting, reserving methodology and a variety of other relevant actuarial topics
* Provide consistent actuarial guidance by leading the research and implementing the enhancement of various actuarial issues
* Lead the development and enhancement of actuarial policies and guidelines, and work with product lines to achieve successful implementation
* Collaborate with other corporate actuarial leaders to research, design and enhance actuarial analytics to deliver business insights and action-driven reporting framework, examples are business performance measures and economic value-based metrics such as Return on Equity (ROE), Embedded Value (EV), and Value of New Business (VNB)
* Lead the corporate actuarial financial reporting team on successful delivery of financial reporting items including monthly portfolio yields, quarterly mortgage valuation and annual asset adequacy testing, etc.

Reporting relationships

You will report to 2nd VP, actuary in CARM and manage an actuarial staff of 4-5 people.

* Strong leadership commitment to develop actuarial staff and engage in the actuarial community initiatives when appropriate

Required Qualifications

* FSA or equivalent Non US actuarial designation
* Bachelor's degree in mathematics, actuarial science or related field
* 8 or more years of progressively responsible actuarial experience
* At least three years of people leadership experience with the ability to lead inclusively and a desire to help others develop.

Desired Qualifications

* Experience in financial reporting and or model governance
* Experience with developing KPIs or other business metrics
