Job Summary The Software Engineering Manager is a tactical role, based on strategic initiatives, ensures successful tactical execution of ANPCs software department. This role manages a multi-disciplinary team encompassing Software Development, Systems Architecture (including the Principal Architect), and Implementation & Test. The successful candidate will bridge the gap between executive business objectives and technical execution, ensuring that our navigation and surveillance solutions are delivered on time, within budget, and in strict accordance with safety-critical standards. You will be responsible for fostering a high-performance culture, managing complex resource allocations, and maintaining the technical integrity of life-critical software systems. You also perform as a hands-on individual contributor with the ability to participate in the success of the team as needed. Essential Job Functions \tLead, mentor, and develop a diverse team including the Principal Architect, Software Engineers, and the Implementation/Test team. \tOversee the full talent lifecycle, including selection, hiring, performance evaluations and exits. \tIdentify skill gaps and implement training or hiring strategies to address them. \tDesign and execute comprehensive onboarding plans to reduce time-to-proficiency for new hires in a complex technical environment. \tMaintain an engineering culture rooted in discipline, professional pride, hard work, and camaraderie. \tCommunicate and execute a clear technical vision for all software products and systems in collaboration with the Director of Engineering. \tManage multiple concurrent development projects, balancing resources and timelines in close coordination with Project Managers. \tPartner with the Principal Architect to define high-level product architecture, design specifications, and integration strategies. \tReview code, design documents, and test plans to ensure maximum maintainability and security. \tEnsure all output meets RTCA DO-278 standards for safety-critical aviation software. \tEstablish and enforce Lean product development methodologies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maximize value-added work. \tLead annual planning and budgeting, including CAPEX justifications, infrastructure roadmaps, software licensing, and hardware requirements for development and testing. \tAct as a key cross-functional partner to gather requirements and ensure software delivery meets business, customer, and schedule objectives. \tTrack development progress and implement corrective actions to keep projects aligned with organizational goals. Education and Work Experience Requirements \tBachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field \t7 years of progressive experience in software development. \t3 years in a management role. \tProven ability to lead cross-functional software teams and manage full project lifecycles. \tProven experience in safety-critical environments; direct familiarity with RTCA DO-278, DO-178C, or similar rigorous regulatory standards. \tAbility to engage deeply with a Principal Architect on system design while simultaneously managing the tactical needs of a Test/QA team. \tExperience managing departmental budgets (CAPEX/OPEX) and aligning technical roadmaps with commercial goals. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics \tStrong background and knowledge of DoD and Army Airfield (AAF) operations and requirements. \tDeep knowledge of regulatory compliance and industry safety standards (DO-278A, DO-254, ARP4761). \tProficiency in software programming languages such as C, C++, C#, and Python. \tStrong understanding of modern software engineering practices, including Agile methodologies, CI/CD, and version control (e.g., GitHub). \tDemonstrated success in mentoring and developing engineering talent through a "servant leader" approach. \tProven ability to balance high levels of team empowerment with the strict discipline required for safety-critical engineering. \tExperience managing remote or distributed teams and collaborating across multi-disciplinary engineering functions. \tExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a rigorous attention to detail. \tExceptional time management skills and the ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. \tStrong verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related project management software. \tExperience with embedded systems or avionics software is highly desirable.
