Headquartered in Vancouver, WA, nLIGHT employs over 1,000 people with operations in the U.S., China, and Finland.Manufacturing Specialist IV - Technical SpecialistThe technical specialist will enable next generation of diode lasers and fiber lasers through process development and supporting transition from concept to high volume manufacturing. Drive continuous improvement activities in a manufacturing environment of released products, support production and coordinate effectively with a wide range of cross functional groups. Be the first line of defense to address in-line product, process, and equipment issues. Includes basic trouble-shooting of product and equipment in addition to preventative maintenance on process equipment. May assist with operator training, performing engineering experiments, gathering data and reporting ponent DepartmentSchedule: 12 hour compressed day shiftNote: This position will work Monday through Friday on day shift for the first several weeks prior to transitioning to the assigned compressed day shift.Qualifications, Experience, Education: Ability to work in cleanroom attire and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time including laser safety protective eyewear Ability to be on your feet 8-12 hours a day Demonstrated knowledge of all cell(s) processes, equipment, and tools and the impact they have on the product Demonstrated ability to think logically and critically Ability to motivate others to meet demands established by the schedule Good communication skills, both verbal and written Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with other cell and department personnel (Operations, Engineering, QA, etc.) Sensitive to, and proactively supports the maintenance of a harassment/discrimination free environment Avoids favoritism, or the perception of favoritism in leadership duties Good dexterity and mechanical skills Ability to work a reasonable amount of overtime as required to meet production output schedules Flexibility to work various shift schedules, including the possibility of compressed or off-shift (night) according to the shift structure business needs. Will help cover absences when needed. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), AX, MOM, SharePoint Basic math skills Ability to analyze and solve problems independently Ability to work with others collaboratively Strong organizational skills Strong inter-personnel skills with employees of differing cultural, language, and educational backgrounds Lean manufacturing and continual process improvement experience High school diploma or equivalent and 3+ years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience Basic to intermediate understanding of product functionality, product processes, and utilized equipment. CPR, First-Aid, ERT training a plus Supportive of team/department/company goals and improvementsJob duties include but not limited to the following: Works with Team Leads to manage and prioritize staffing assignments in accordance with customer demand and ensure production schedules are met Escalates production issues to Lead and makes recommendations for recovering to plan Maintains a positive work environment for employees Escalates performance issues as needed; Communicates with employees in a respectful manner regarding time management and workmanship issues; Notifies Lead when action is required to improve performance Provides objective, fact-based input for performance reviews and progressions In collaboration with the Lead coordinates resources to move among teams to support overall throughput goals of production Assists Training Coordinator/Lead in executing and coordinating employee training to ensure that procedures are followed and meet all quality requirements, coaching existing employees as required Works with employees to improve/maintain performance to meet team continuous improvement objectives Uses problem-solving skills to ensure stable operation of the work cell(s) Report problems or concerns with quality, processes, equipment, materials and labor to the Lead Participates in root cause analysis of out of control conditions Assists with process changes as directed by Lead or Supervisor Ensure material stock levels are sufficient, kanbans are followed, and accurate inventory is maintained through daily cycle counts Works closely with support staff such as Lead, Technicians, Process/Product Engineering, Production Supervisor, Materials/Warehouse, IT teams to resolve issues quickly and completely Observes, maintains, coordinates and completes standard work programs Updates production metrics and facilitates regular team communication Identifies and supports continuous improvement efforts with Lead/Supervisor, sustains and drives Lean manufacturing and 5S activities, suggests and makes recommendations for cost savings ideas Participates as an active member of the production assembly team and assembles products as needed Follows documented policies and procedures as designated by the company's Quality System Follows detailed assembly instructions, processes and procedures Maintains a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions Manages time effectively and meets all job responsibilities Acts with integrity and honesty while promoting the nLight values and culture Performs related duties as assigned or as the situation dictatesnLIGHT is subject to US Export Control regulations.
