Title: Research Associate (RA I, RA II or Senior RA)
Location: Vancouver, WA
Shift: M-F Days
Compensation: $65k-$82k base salary, depends on level and experience

Position Description:
Research Associates are responsible for performing research and development experiments for projects and products in collaboration with others, and under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Lead Scientist. Use professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways. Investigate, create and develop new methods and technologies for project advancement. Regularly exercise technical discretion in design, execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project goals. Contribute to project process within scientific discipline through innovative research. Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses. May participate in scientific conferences and make contributions to publications and patents. Possess a full understanding of and ability to apply established principles, theories, and concepts in area of responsibility, together with a working knowledge of related disciplines.

Research projects require familiarity with current scientific literature together with the capability to select methods and techniques for obtaining solutions within broadly defined practices and procedures. Depending on level, may be involved in teams, which include participation from/interaction with other sections and/or divisions, and may provide guidance to junior Research Associates/Assistants or other lab personnel. May assume leading role in providing solutions to difficult, though defined, problems associated with specific projects. May participate in external seminars and scientific conferences.

Responsibilities Include:
--- Operate laboratory instruments and equipment and perform equipment maintenance according to
the laboratory's standard operating procedures.
--- Recognize unusual patient results and identify problems in analytical procedures/systems; respond with appropriate investigation and/or corrective action.
--- Troubleshoot assays and equipment which fail to perform adequately.
--- Observe established safety guidelines and maintain cleanliness of the laboratory.
--- Keep meticulous and organized record of specimens, tests, instrument logs, and technical analyses.
--- Maintain stringent standards for quality, identifying any issues which might adversely impact the quality of test results and/or employee safety, and communicating these to the appropriate management representatives as necessary for resolution.
--- Participate in activities required to support all necessary licensure for the clinical laboratory, including quality management functions and on-site inspections of the laboratory.
--- Maintain updated understanding and knowledge of the methods employed in the laboratory and the use of the resulting information by physicians through continuing education activities.
--- Consult with management and personnel on better operational procedures to improve overall efficiency and product yields.
--- Accurately document and maintain all records for equipment and instruments.
--- Support the administrative functions of the lab as required.
--- Utilize excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both verbal and written communications and excellent customer service skills in a culturally diverse organization.
--- Contribute to team research environment in a manner conducive to the success of research projects as a whole.
--- Assist training new personnel.

Requirements:
--- Bachelor's degree or higher in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or other science field. Clinical or medical technology degree is a plus.
--- Strong Immunoassay development experience - ELISA, PCR, qPCR.
--- CAP/CLIA laboratory experience is a plus.
--- Experience in pharmacy or pharmaceutical science is a plus.

Knowledge Needed:
--- Experience in a minimum of 6 areas (Sr RA), 5 areas (RA II), 4 areas (RA I), listed below is required:
o Pharmacology/Pharmacogenetics
o General clinical chemistry (hematology and biochemistry diagnostic tests)
o Microbiology
o ISO regulation/requirements (e.g., ISO17025)
o Immunoassay (ELISA/EIA)
o Western blot
o HPLC
o LC/MS
o Solid phase extraction
o DNA extraction and Sterile technique
o RT-PCR and Proficient with pipetting low volumes (
