SCA Crosswalk : Eng Tech V

Provides technical support to engineering and technical personnel by performing studies and tests of substantial variety; also evaluates and presents results necessary to control the proper analysis and integrity of engineering projects. Tasks may include but not limited to assisting project managers and other electrical engineering personnel in the engineering, design, and implementation responsibility for assigned projects, and other related engineering activities.

Education & Applicable Fields:
Bachelor s or Associate s degree in Electrical Engineering, mathematics, computer science or a closely related field is preferred.

Education & Experience Requirements:
Level 3
" With an applicable Bachelor s Degree, 6 years of electrical engineering work experience in a technical/engineering environment is required.
" Without an applicable degree, 10 years of electrical engineering work experience in a technical/engineering environment is required.

Typical tasks may include but are not limited to:
" Perform simulation studies and document findings in formal reports.
" Compile technical results in summary form such as tables, reports, and graphics to support engineering staff.
" Develop and maintain databases related to engineering/scientific applications.
" Conduct efficiency studies on various projects and provides recommendations.
" Assist in the review and modification of One Line Diagrams and design drawings, using MicroStation CAD or equivalent software.
" Prepare and process work statements, procurement requests, detail sheets, receiving reports and invoices for various contracts.
" Perform field research by traveling to remote sites to collect physical data.
" Assemble electrical and electronic systems and prototypes according to engineering data and knowledge of electrical principles, using hand tools and measuring instruments.
" Install and maintain electrical control systems and solid state equipment.
" Modify electrical prototypes, parts, assemblies, and systems to correct functional deviations.
" Set up and operate test equipment to evaluate performance of developmental parts, assemblies, or systems under simulated operating conditions, and record results.
" Collaborate with electrical engineers and other personnel to identify, define, and solve developmental problems.
" Build, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical instruments or testing equipment.
" Analyze and interpret test information to resolve design-related problems. Provide solutions/recommendations to BPA Manager or other federal personnel for review/approval.
" Draft/develop commissioning procedures for electrical installations.
" Draft/develop project cost and work-time estimates.
" Review engineering proposals, shop drawings and design comments for sound electrical engineering practice and conformance with established safety and design criteria.
" Draw or modify diagrams and write engineering specifications to clarify design details and functional criteria.
" Conduct inspections for quality control and assurance programs, reporting findings and recommendations to BPA management.
" Review existing electrical engineering criteria to identify necessary revisions, deletions or amendments to outdated material.
" Provide education and training to other electrical engineering technicians and other organizational personnel on processes, documentation, equipment use, systems, or other assigned engineering activities.
Note: Final drafts, documents or other products must be reviewed and approved by a BPA Federal employee with the authority to do so.
